The ambulance had already arrived when Agnes reached the scene. The paramedics were examining Owen.
“Oh, my God. What happened?” She said as she ran past the officers, but Jefferson restrained her
“Let me see him. I’m his wife.” She said loudly, trying to get away.
“You will, you will. Just a while, Ma’m.”
Noticing Ted she asked “Ted, what happened?”
Ted repeated what he had told Jefferson. Agnes stood close to him, pressing the palm of her left hand and staring in the direction of Owen.
When the paramedics placed Owen on a stretcher, they allowed her to come close. She held Owen’s hand as she walked alongside the stretcher, tears rolled down her eyes. The paramedics had put oxygen mask over Owen’s nose.
“Hang in there, honey. You’ll be all right.” Agnes said softly. As they were closing the door of the ambulance Ted approached her and said he would join her in the hospital. She held Owen’s hand as they drove to the Jackson Memorial hospital.
